Just found this vintage thread! We are working on making our own garden tower out of a 55-gallon food grade drum that had food-safe glycerin in it. The slots had been cut for a couple of weeks but we were struggling with a blow torch, and instead got a heat gun which is working much better to melt and stretch the holes. Like you, I was concerned about the sustainability of a worm farm inside it, but perhaps for opposite reasons. I wasn't sure it would stay cool enough throughout, this being Florida. So, we're opting to build an olla out of silicon-connected terra cotta pots (really an hourglass-shaped double olla out of four 8" pots, two sets cemented mouth to mouth and then connected drain-hole-to-drain-hole.) We've built a wheeled caddy for it so that we can rotate it. I really thought it would be done a month ago, but my boyfriend kept putting it off. It's great to see what you've done with yours! I'm hoping to do some strawberries, salad greens, and some peas along the bottom.
