I soaked the half bag of limas for a few hours and cooked them. After draining and rinsing the beans I was amazed at how fast they cooked and NO TORN UP STOMACH ! Thanks ! I might soak nuts too, great idea. Thanks!

Your welcome.
Now that you have survived I will tell you something that you may not know.
Many other people dont know this either.
Beans are poisonous red kidney beans are one of the worst.
I read that 20% of the food poisoning cases in the US could be caused by beans not being cooked correctly.
Always soak beans for several hours drain and rinse.
I soak mine overnight or at least 6 to 8 hours.
Always boil beans for at least 10 minutes.
Never ever eat under cooked beans.
Where I worked at they didn't soak beans they were under cooked and I would not eat them.
I told the people in charge what I have just told everyone else here and it fell on deaf ears.

Here is a link.

I have no idea why they dont put these warnings on beans but they dont.

Thanks Worth, I never knew this although I did know soaking aids in digestive issues. I often do the quick soak, bring to boil and then soak two hours, rinse. In fact I have an old book just about dried beans and it says to rinse several times. Apparently the more the better.

I've never heard that either! How weird! I LOVE kidney beans in salad. In my world a salad's not a salad without cold kidney beans. From now on all dry beans get soaks and rinses! Gosh, you all are a great help to me. Now I can keep enjoying my lima bean, butter, green onion feasts!

Debora it was kind of a jerk move on my part.
That is why I asked exactly how you cooked the beans I was 100% sure you were mildly poisoning yourself.

If I were to come right out and say beans were poison I was afraid you would never eat them again, some people are like this.
But if you were to soak and rinse and not have the same symptoms then I knew you would continue to eat them.

You are the second person that has been the subject of my so called experiments.
For this I apologize but I knew you weren't in any danger.

The second was my neighbor lady.
From conversations with her and seeing what she eats I knew she doesn't have what she says she has.
The doctor knows this too.
Even if she did what I did wouldn't do anything to her.'
If I would have told her what I put in the muffins I gave her she would never have eaten them.
I asked her yesterday how she liked them and she said they were great some of the best she has ever had.

She hardly ever gets anything I cook she likes very bland food or so she says and most of mine is very spicy not just from chilies but other things.
None of which you would ever taste in a normal Texas restaurant.
She doesn't like garlic onions hot peppers cant eat black pepper and many other things that are good for you.
She is about 5' 3" or less extremely over weight huge breasts that make things worse.
High blood pressure over the top and 84.
Who am I to force things down someone that age and the last thing I want to do is put her in the hospital.
She doesn't drink alcohol coffee or tea and doesn't smoke.
She doesn't pass judgment on me for it.
She is a sweet lady that took care of her two sons on her own that has let poor eating habits get the best of her with weight.
She knows it and there isn't a heck of a lot she or I can do about it now.

I'm glad she has you. That old and overweight she possibly has Diabetes Type II as well. I'm going to be praying for her. Is it a violation of her privacy to ask her first name? If so, I can pray without a name. God knows who she is.

Debora her name is Arleen she is like me I claim no religion nor do we talk about it.
She will gladly except your prayers.
That doesn't mean we dont believe we just aren't a member of a group.
Sometimes we just gripe about her daughter in law and how much of a creep she is.
The other day I brought her up because we were talking about cats.
The very first time I ever saw her daughter in law she was at Arleens house.
My old cat Tom came over to see her.
The woman kicked my cat in the side and hurt him.
I told Arleen that from that day on the woman was on my list she would never get off of it.
There was and will be no redemption or forgiveness ever.
She is also mean to her horses and kicks them, they hate her.

Oddly enough Arleen's blood sugar is fine.
It is just she cant exercise to get off the weight she has.
I could go get the mail for her and sometimes I do if she is sick.
But it is better for her to get up and go get it her self just for the movement.

That daughter-in-law is guilty of animal abuse and I hope you report her. I will pray for Arleen. When I find myself being unable to forgive as you are and no wonder, I remember the Bible verse that says love covers a multitude of sins. Really comes in handy! LOL!

Uh, I think I need that verse right now because I just now found myself wishing that the horses would haul off and kick that abuser right in her ugly face. I truly mean that. Giddy up!

Your wish has already came true she got in between a mother horse and her new born.
The mother shoved her against the fence and put her in the hospital.
This means the mother didn't trust her.
Our cattle we raised trusted us.
We could pet the new born baby calves as they came out and my dog Rip would help the mothers lick them.
The cows would be so proud and nuzzle us.

This means you have imprinted with the animal and became a part of the herd.
This woman may own and control the horses but she hasn't imprinted with them.
Her husband has.

They may put up with the kicking but when it came to the baby they drew the line.
That is the baby you dont hurt the baby.
I will take abuse even people hitting me but I wont allow people to do it to others and or things I care for.

In grade school the bullies used to pick on me and I wouldn't do anything back.
They thought I was a coward.
Then one day a bully was being cruel to a little kitten on the play ground.
The kid had to go to the nurse after the teachers pulled me off of him and they had to carry him off.
That was the day all of the girls started liking me.

Yes but how far do we go with this and where are the boundaries.
We have threads in the your 2 cents section asking people to pray for them or a loved one.
Other people have statements after every post saying things like god bless.
Years ago Toms Trees put up a post asking people what they were going to do for lent.
None of this is contested or anything.
Then what about Christmas and Easter.
This is all religious in one way or another yet they are allowed.

This inconsistency creates mixed messages to people.
Is it black and white or is there a gray area and if so what shade of gray?
I can honestly see were this could be confusing considering the text of the forum rules and what is being allowed without molestation.
