Hey Barb, I still use pro mix, and these were grown until recently with Flora Nova and with Cal-mag as a supplement. I use the fertilizer every time I water, CM too. We also water twice a day, it's expensive but they grow like dandelions. I have switched to a 4-18-38 and supplement with Calcium Nitrate and Magnesium Sulfate

We measured two tomatoes tonight, and both are over 23 inches, the non fused tomato is absolutely stunning to look at, I have never had one do that.

For late season goodies, I have ate ripe Stump, and a ripe Delicious, we have Fred Limbaugh blushing, and German Queen. GQ is looking like it is going to have a a huge yield, and the tomatoes are all large and pretty overall, now I hope they just taste good.
Take care ya all
Akmark. You say you switched to 4-18-38 and supplement with CN and MS. Are you mixing the three together and sprinkling on dry or are you dissolving it and feeding as liquid. You mentioned you were feeding every time you watered (twice a day) Is that with an injection method? Or are you just using the 4-18-38 by itself daily and supplementing with CN and Epson Salt every 10 days?

Did you abandon the 13-13-13 with the Mittleider micro pack? I think you said you were experimenting with the 4-18-38. Look forward to hearing how it went. It's great that you are willing to try different approaches all the time. You seem to want to push the envelope to try and outdo your self every year. A trait that takes people from just good to great. IMO.

The 4-18-38 is a formula from Hydro Gardens that my friends use with injectors, so the fertilizer is liquid soluble, I switched too. I had great luck with FN, and super results when I supplement with Cal-Mag. FN was injected into my water from large tanks, and is used every time I water, I watch the plants to determine how much I use.
I get away with not using CM every time, but the plants do best when I use it more/ every day.
I have never tried 13-13-13, if my memory serves me that is.
We do try to be more efficient, and I like the plants to look good. Honestly, I think our long sunny days up here helps a lot, the plants have the perfect environment, and I can control the daytime temps until mid summer, then they suffer a little.
This has been a great year, I will post some pics later.
Take care

Thank you for your response AKmark. On the 13-13-13 - just scratch that. Had you mixed up with someone else. Brain fog sets in after reading the 240th post. Anyway your greenhouse and plants look amazing.

AKmark, very nice plants and pictures as others said.

Re German Queen, it's one of my faves and I grow it every year. Big, beautiful and tasty fruit.

Woot, Look at those trusses! Thicker than the base of some vines around here. What do you think that leaf mottling is? I have some very similar, wonder if it could've been aftermath related to earlier P deficiency. Or the closest diagnostic picture I have seen said Mg deficiency.

It is MG deficiency, which really shows up after our days become longer with more intense sun. If you look at the plants you can see where I corrected that, I usually don't supplement more Calcium and MG until plants start their fruit production, and begin the fast growing stages, saves some money and those bottom leaves come off anyway. Now that I switched fertilizer I have to supplement because the new stuff has 0. Some varieties showed no deficiency, some more than others, we have to balance everything out, that's the hard part of growing so many different varieties. I wish I had time to take some pics of all the different varieties side by side, it is interesting.
The plants with the curled leaves and has a giant tomato, is in the sunny hot spot/ intense sun location, in the greenhouse, all varieties suffer foliage wise up there.

Default Bear Claw and Bear Creek

Bear Claw is a much larger plant, very vigorous, with large pretty ribbed fruit, with a good taste. Bear Creek is a much shorter vine for me, but the yield is great too. I think we prefer B Creek by a litttle.

Default BW Landis Valley and McKinley

My son may have said it best "BW LV is a good commercial type tomato." The fruit is perfect, and the taste is pretty good, but it does not have an intense flavor or a real complex flavor either, but it did taste to us like a good hybrid commercial type tomato.
McKinley is a great yielder too, of ugly mis-shapen beefsteaks, that have (amazing) tomato flavor.
McKinley stole the show the today out of the four.

We lost a tomato today, it was 4.09lbs, but the other one still on the plant will probably get a boost now, and it is over 26 inches around.
Everything is going good, lots of great tomato tastings.
