Fantastic - this has given me at least a six week head start with HC orders and an opportunity to still plant more seeds for myself and friends and bring them to planting out by the time we get back from the Land of the Long White Cloud in November. It was good last year but even better now it's double skinned. I forgot to put the heater on last night but it maintained 16C degrees overnight when it was 4C outside.

Those tommies look superb Cosmic. I must know more about double skinning. I may have to do a recky before next winter!
Thanks for the offer of seed Spatz but two Amish Salad have emerged now so I'm thinking they're just really slow. They're weeks behind everything else. Same with the Black Cherry actually. Only now, weeks later, are they emerging.

Ray, my Amish Salad were also slow. So much so that I actually over-sowed them. Spent today pricking out for my tommie /perennial sale on Cup Day.

Those beards look like a great medium for seed raising.

In a strange way, I dig these dudes' simplistic outlook on life, Luddism and eccentricity... but then it hits me like tropical air-con on setting 10... wake up man!

Hey, here's a theme...

I'm excited by:

My first Saras Galapagos germinating in several years and showing true leaves.

By first REAL Box Car Willie (also ex Dr. C... thanks so much) germinating... just 1/10 and I'm looking after it.

Having Rainy's Maltese... (buried though this mention is, if you have read this far check out ...http://ausgarden.com/smf/index.php?topic=3776.0. It's a big one off a small (determinate?) plant.)

Having a pile of Suze's Italian paste-type tomatoes up and away

Having more GMG PLs, leading to me isolating a stable stock of seeds.

And having all Craig's and my Sneezy seedlings powering ahead...

So there ...

Hmmm... I think I've made another mistake.

My potting mix isn't as fantastic as it usually is. Some of my tomato seedlings are dying off. I think the ratio coir:soil is not right. Too much coir. Bummer.

Usually I have 1/3 coir, 1/3 compost, 1/3 old potting mix. I think this lot has 1/2 coir, 1/4 compost, 1/4 old potting mix. Not good.

But no need to panic, I still have plenty of seedlings left. More than plenty.

Spatz - Just a thought - Can you go from 75mm tubes to say 140mm pot in the better mix. Then plant out from the bigger pot.
