The thing is, everyone here might decide to do it a little differently from each other. But that does not make any of them "wrong". It is kind of hard to argue with sturdy, green, healthy plants and a good root system. Maybe she could get fruit significantly earlier if she is did it different, maybe not. But that doesn't mean she is doing it "wrong". JMHO.

I totally agree sue. This was my first time growing from seed and I got a bit of a panic attack that i was doing something wrong. I didn't mean to come off as my way is better or her way is better. She has way more experience in gardening in general than I do. So of course I got a little concerned when she said that.

Thankfully, tomatoes have strong "weed" genes! they seems to grow despite our best efforts . . . and mistakes.

I would suspect digging down to the earths mantle would be a little too deep.

This thread got me thinking outloud. I have some 1G Root Pouches. Right now, they are all sitting in solo cups except for some late seed decisions in which I'm germinating <eeks>.
My plan for the one in dirt is just to go from Solo to dirt. For the containers (15G), I'm thinking I might transplant once more to the 1G Root Pouch, maybe let them hang out there for 2-3 weeks (smaller pot, more access to 02, warmer soil, etc). Then when the temps are about to start cranking, I'll go ahead and transplant into the containers - in which I will use the full depth of the 1G pot. Sounds about right ? |

I don't know, Worth, as long as you had a couple of sets of green leaves showing, I think you might ok.
