Correct.

Now Jose, who is chasing after Irma so far, is also a hurricane. Plus the TD in the gulf area. Not looking good at this point for Florida, so everyone in those states likel;y to be hit, please evacuate.

Nurses and doctors, etc., should evacuate as well, due to the chances are high for many deaths in this storm. They can live and come back to help others.

They're finally getting some communication from Barbuda

The ABS- TV (Antigua and Barbuda) are reporting ONE fatality on Barbuda. Not one thousand people dead.

However they are also reporting "90 percent of the housing stock on Barbuda is decimated"

.. implying that the large majority of the ~1600 people who were on Barbuda have been left homeless or severely damaged homes.

I can't handle the thought of another hurricane decimating everything in it's path. I truly hope everyone can get out and stay alive from this thing.

It is hard to imagine how people lived before we had weather forecasting. And amazing to see how things are connected globally. We just had a stretch of hot humid days with moist air propelled (as it seems) by Katia in the Gulf. Now we are siphoning off some buckets of rain from Irma for the next 4-5 days.
Thinking of our friends in Florida, stay safe!
Special weather statement in effect for:
  • St. John's and vicinity
An extended period of wet weather is expected.

A trough of low pressure will become nearly stationary over the Avalon Peninsula today. Tropical moisture streaming along this feature has the potential to bring significant rain to the area. Total amounts of 35 to 55 mm of rain are forecast for the Avalon Peninsula by Sunday evening, but there is potential for amounts to reach warning criteria.

And this is completely trivial when you look at the picture of the Atlantic Basin.

Thank you Bower. First feeders are coming through now, heavy rain and 22mph winds, then dry 10 minutes later. Power still on.

Glad to see you posting, for some reason, makes me feel better. Not that I can do anything, or even that you could, but good so far.

Except when the cable is out for weeks on end it won't be any better, lol. Maybe that satellite would be better in the long run?
