How many tomatos?
Not that I'll have too many of the same kind (so many got sunburned from that heatwave!) but how much do you'all bring of each kind?
I hope to bring: Arkansas Traveller Azoychla Berkeley Tie Dye Black Cherry Black Seaman Black Zebra Burraker's Favorite Crimean Rose Japanese Pink Kellogg's Breakfast Mikado Violetta Nyagous Speckled Roman Super Italian Paste Tomato |

Angelique,
10 of those in the list were in the ground at the community garden plot. Those did much better in the heat than mine at home in raised beds. Many of those don’t have any tomatoes now but with the milder weather they're starting to flower again. From the lists it looks like we’ll have a lot more tomatoes than I expected. Quote:
Most varieties we only cut up 2 tomatoes and that gave us plenty for tasting.

Hi everyone,
I just got back from Hawaii and still a little jetlagged but came back to find myself swamped with tomatoes (my neighbors have been helping me but still so many on the vine). I'm hoping that some will ripen in time for this coming Saturday. I convinced my DH to drive me up so I'm really excited about the meeting. I'm going to try to bring up some scones to share and maybe a pasta salad (we'll see what I can muster up on Sat). As for tomatoes, right now, I think I can probably bring: Sunsugar F1 ARGG cherry White Rabbit Jaune Flamme Kosovo Pale Perfect Purple Green Giant Berkeley Tie Dye (if they ripen) Paul Robeson Orange Russian 117 Big Rainbow Julia Child 1884 Dr. Neal (PL) Beauty Lottringa Ananas Noire Green Zebra Hugh's Black Zebra I think I will have to confirm this list nearer to the date. Right now, I'm just guessing and there may be some that will decide to ripen earlier for me. We'll have to see... I'm really excited to meet you all! Cheers, Annie |

Hi Bruce & all,
We're hoping to bring: Pork Chop (Brad's), Red Boar (Brad's) Russian 117 (from GTG, so unsure of its final "ripe" color) Quedlinburger Fruehe Liebe (if they can hold up that long) Moldovan Green (from Bruce) Chico Andrew Rahart Jumbo Red (from Bruce) Had to eat the first Prue tonight, because it wouldn't make it until Saturday. The rest of them won't be ripe in time. Due to a conflicting obligation (and not knowing early enough of our starting time), I won't be able to get to the park until about Noon or so. Hopefully that will still work. The late and long rainy spells followed by those summer hot spells really did my production in -- I'm finally getting green fruit just starting to size up, so they won't make it for the tasting this weekend. Rats! Anyone interested in an encore in October? BetsyLT |

Aack. I just accidently flooded my garden. I hope all my tomatos don't burst from the shock!

Well, I think I need to get organized for Saturday.
Food to bring? Where is the park location? Is there a map? I think I'll pick only the vine-ripened varieties in my garden (nothing picked almost-ripe). I can't promise I'll bring everything on my previous list. GTG |

Hey Bruce,
Please add Eva Purple Ball to the tomatoes I'm hoping to bring. I have two of 'em that are suddenly starting to color up. I'm crossing my fingers about the QFLs. I picked a truss of them last night - hoping they'll not be over-ripe by Saturday. Doesn't look like the Andrew Raharts will ripen in time -- drat! -Betsy |

Anyone else coming that may have a tomato list to post here or to e-mail me? I’m printing up the sheets today. I’ll bring extras just in case!

Hi Bruce,
Here's my finalized list: Orange Russian 117 Kosovo Paul Robeson Green Giant New Big Dwarf Brandywine OTV Hugh's Big Rainbow Indian Stripe Julia Child Black Zebra Green Zebra Ananas Noire Beauty Lottringa Jaune Flamme (most of mine are a little BER though) Wes (only have one ripe but I'll bring it) Carbon (kinda small and only two ripe) Hess (only one) ARGG cherry Sunsugar F1 White Rabbit Was hoping my Stump of the World would ripen up but nothing (the plant is gorgeous and laden with HUGE toms though). Pale Perfect Purple too is just starting to turn color but doubt it will be at its best so I won't bring it--it's seriously good though! Berkeley Tie Dye is also not ripe yet (I have one that my neighbour picked unripe while we were away because he thought it was splitting too much--it's ripe now but I don't know about the taste--should I bring it?). I was pretty upset but he thought he was helping me....sigh! Cheers, Annie |

GTG, do you have a ride? Nate and I can stop by and get you since we are coming all the way from San Jose if you happen to need a ride. Let me know by this evening if you do (pm me with your phone number so I can call you to firm up plans).
Brad, where exactly are you? If it's on the way, maybe we can swing by and pick up unless Bruce has it all worked out already. I would love to see your place! Cheers, Annie |
