Default Free Peppers. Mareko Fana. Bay Area

I have some leftover Mareko Fana pepper plants (55, but it looks like 10 may be spoken for).

Mareko Fana is a medium heat fleshy pepper, prized in Ethiopian cuisine, and used to make Berbere spice.

email me -- fred@growartisan.com if you want to pick any of them up. First come first served.

I'm growing a pepper called Berbere (no mention of Mareko Fana on the tag). Is that the same thing? From what I understand, as you say, it's dried and used for powder in Ethiopian cuisine.

I wish I was a little closer! I am about as far away as you can get and still technically be in "The Bay area". Do you mind posting a picture of the plant? Is the business in Snol as well. I'd love to visit someday. Maybe I can wish a little harder.

From what I understand, Berere is the brown spice, and there are a few similar brown peppers used to make it in Ethiopia. My Ethiopian collaborator says Mareko Fana is the gold standard.

Berbere is used to describe brown Ethiopian peppers, and a Berbere pepper may be Mareko Fana.

Where did you get your "Berbere" seed?

Thanks for the link. That does not look like Mareko Fana. Mareko Fana typically ripens to deep brown, not red.

This "Berbere" links is also not Mareko Fana:

These links show peppers that are Mareko Fana, or something similar:

And this is our Mareko Fana:
