I have two self watering pots, on has a houseplant in it, the other lemongrass. I found instructions here for a self watering, I am trying to make one.

Thank you, I really wasn't familiar with "mud bucket' before. It's great to learn something new!

Mud is heavy so the 5 gal buckets it's sold in are strong. Also useless when empty and are often retrieved from residential building sites. They make dandy plant pots, and can be stacked for hydroponic setups.

Black Pearl is a gorgeous pepper - it won National Best Ornamental some years ago. But don't try to eat it. Too seedy, too hot for you, and some people think it has a soapy flavor. Just stand back and admire. Two in a bucket is quite reasonable since they aren't large, but I think most containers detract from its beauty. I've always used plain black plastic nursery pots and let the plants shine. Also check out Numex Twilight.

And tell hubby to go fix the car.
Tell the hubby to go fix the car? LOL! Whoosh there, right over my head for a moment!
.
He brings me 5 gallon buckets-and a larger size too, but the buckets I get used to hold 'pool shock'.
.
Mud bucket is a term I had never heard before! I hate to say it, but I really do wish I had more than a few buckets of mud(not concrete). It would be some sort of soil to dump on my garden.
.
There is a plant called Black Hawk now, it looks close to Black Pearl, but with bullet shaped peppers. I will look up NuMex Twillight. (purple?) I found a very old package of NuMex Sunrise. I will try to sprout.
.
Thanks for the reply, from tarpalsfan

Do you water from the top? If so, I suspect you mix it at the 1 tsp, 1/2 tsp, 1/2 tsp per gallon rate. Do you use a whole gallon per plant per day?

A 5 gallon smart pot, and a 5 gallon bucket are not the same. The
bucket has more soil. If I was going to experiment with 2 plants per
container, I would use the buckets.
I did grow Medusa years ago. You can fit at least 4 of those in a smart
pot.

I made a reservoir in the bottom of the bucket. There are many variations out there.
