I think you all know how it feels when you save your flower/veggie seeds, etc etc. You get this proud feeling Thanks for reading/listening! Hope everyone is having a FANTASTIC FRIDAY!!

Those look great in the pics. I grew some tall ones too, quite similar to yours. I added a lot of fertilizer and instead of getting the single flower they ended up with 4-6 auxiliary heads plus the big one. It extended their lives for a couple of weeks. Nowhere near as pretty as yours.
Best of luck with the next batch! |

Look at my other sunflowers that I am growing
Good Evening everyone!! This is my first year growing this sunflower and if you know me. I forgot what the name of this sunflower. I get too excited to plant/water the seeds and forget to label them. If plants could only have their names imprinted on their stems, it would help me out so much
Also, can someone help me out regarding posting pictures. When I try to attach my picture, its says the file is too large. So I go to PAINT, resize the file, then save and attach. Is that the only way to do attach a picture to our postings? Thanks for any expertise you all can provide.

upload our picture to any free picture website like Flickr (that's what I use.) And then you get the URL address from there and post that URL using the image icon (yellow sky with mountains) in the toolbar above each post-reply.
The squirrels are now beyond greedy with my sunflowers and I'm unable to get the seeds before them. If I cut the flowers (before they have died) and put them in a place to dry, will the seeds be viable. Does anyone know?

Sorry about the squirrels doing that to your sunflowers. I don't have many around my area so I do not have that issue. BUT I do have itchy fingers in my neighborhood who think my front lawn is a free for all but other than that no squirrels.

Bluee19, your sunflowers look very nice.
I remember a field of sunflowers that was planted every year by a local farmer. This was back in the 1970s. It seemed like they were 10' tall. |

I think I sent you Titan. But, I would not be able to tell if that's what you have in the 2nd pic.

I found out its a lemon queen sunflower. I can't wait to plant the titan sunflowers you bestowed upon me. I don't know if I still have time in my area to plant them. If I do, I will take a picture when they grow up. If not, it will be for next season. I am hoping to get more variety of sunflowers. They are so pretty.

I tried to grow some last year and they all croaked. Tried to grow them in full sun and the heat and humidty did them in The best variety I have grown was Vanilla Ice. Beautiful almost a pale cream color and they had multiple branching. Those I grew in pots and in partial shade and they did fantastic. |

The sunflowers look beautiful.
One time I bought a bag of shelled salted sunflower seeds at the airport to snack on, on the plane. I tried to eat them but the seeds were old and rancid. I decided to bring them home and feed them to the birds and dumped them on the ground. The seeds sprouted and I had a sunflower patch in my yard. Who would have thought old rancid salted sunflower seeds would sprout. Worth |

Thanks everyone for the kind words.
It feels good to get compliments.
I was reading an article titled: "Wisconsin Man Plants 4-Mile Stretch of Sunflowers in Tribute to Wife Who Died of Cancer" She passed away from cancer at 66 last November, her husband Don Jaquish planted nearly 400 acres of sunflowers for her. I was moved when reading this article for the love he had for her. http://abcnews.go.com/Lifestyle/wisc...ry?id=33139867
