Doug, I am pondering starting separate threads for the lavender to red (Amethyst as the working name), and the lavender to golden yellow (Fire Opal), similar to the Dwarf tomato thread.....what do you think?

It doesn't present a problem for me.

April 22, 2010

On March 2, I planted:
A. 12 seeds of the F5 generation (vial 415) produced by my plant #4 in 2009 from Islander 2.2 F4 Vial 08-18
B. 12 seeds of Islander 6.1 F4 Vial 08-26
C. 12 seeds of Islander 6.2 F4 Vial 08-28
D. 12 seeds of Islander 8.2 F4 Vial 08-31
On March 3, I planted
E. 12 seeds of Islander 3.1 F4 Vial 08-19

As of today, I'm declaring this planting to be a total failure, nothing, nada, zip. I am planting the remaining seed under different conditions and will update when there is something to report.

Linda, I am going to get this thread going again, since you and I are working out my continued efforts on this.

Let's report our results here - further work is proceeding on the following new named varieties, as selections of Islander.

Amethyst (cream to lavender to red)
Fire Opal (cream to lavender to gold)
White Gold (cream to gold)
Royal Purple (pale green to purple to red - darker shade of purple than Amethyst)
Candy Corn (cream to orange to red)

There seems to be a variation in the small unripe fruit - either cream, or very pale green - and some variation in fruit shape - blocky bell to elongated bell.

I am growing the following

Amethyst 08-27
Amethyst 09-28
Royal Purple 09-30
Royal Purple 10-47
Fire Opal 10-50
Fire Opal 10-40
White Gold 09-33
White Gold 09-36
Candy Corn 09-31
Candy Corn 09-32

These are at either the F4, F5 or F6 stage at this point....

Linda, feel free to post your results here as well.

On Feb 3, 2011, planted 4 seeds of each type in 2" pots placed on heating mat at 85 degrees:

Amethyst 08-27 (F4)
Amethyst 09-28 (F5)
Royal Purple 10-47 (F5)
Fire Opal 10-50 (F5)
Fire Opal 10-40 (F5) or F6?...marked over so can't tell
White Gold 09-33 (F5)
White Gold 09-36 (F5)
Candy Corn 09-32 (F5)

Will probably grow all that germinate this year and then only continue with one of them next year.
