Default Dehybridizing peppers

When stabilizing a pepper cross, can I just self-pollinate repeatedly until I get stable results like I would with a tomato, or should I maintain a population to cross against as I would with an outbreeder? Being more profligately outcrossing I don't know if their self-compatibility is as high as in tomatoes. Thanks for any input you can give.
