Slap together dog bed.
Boo Boo got a new dog mattress the other day and needed a new bed to go with it.
He was sleeping on a raggedy old chair. I was trying to get rid of it but every time I tried to toss it out he would growl at me. So I had to build the bed and as everything I do I go a little overboard. I still need to put feet on it and something for the top. As I write this he is sleeping on the new bed and he is happy with it. Here is his new bed. Worth Attachment 20767 Attachment 20768 Last edited by Worth1; November 17, 2012 at 05:42 PM. |

Worth,
If this is your idea of a "slap together" bed.....then I can hardly wait to see what you consider fine woodworking serious craftsmanship. Boo is definitely one lucky dog. And I bet he stops snoring playing lord of the manor in that bed! Can't wait to see what the finished product will end up looking like....but it looks like you might have to fine tune it on the next trip. Seriously....If you ever get tired of all the commuting you could do well as a woodcraftsman/cabinetmaker. Zana |

My word, that is some dog bed!
Gee, I'm wanting to make a headboard for my own bed, but couldn't do anything near that fancy - care to come visit?

Thank you all for the kind words.
I sit back and remember the first thing I made from wood, it was a box trap to catch rabbits. I was about 10 years old at the time and I caught rabbits with it, which in turn put food on the table. Before that when I lived in town I was in kindergarten and would get a rock, old nails, scrap lumber and an old hand saw. With this I would construct ladders to go up the trees so we could play in them. I used the rock to hammer the nails. My father had no problem letting me use a hand saw at this age. Then around 13 I would make toy trucks out of lumber and I used round fence posts for the wheels. I used an old fishing reel for a winch on the winch truck I built. Then came the snake and spider cages I kept critters in. With the dog bed I measured the foam mattress and went to the store. There I measured the length of the lumber and came up with the right length of 2X10's. To make a long story short all I had left of the 2X10's was sawdust, no scrap. The whole thing is a one off deal with no plans but a vision and a few numbers I kept stored in my head. The cost not including a few odds and ends I had around the house was $61.00. Not a bad deal for a dog bed for a dog that really deserves it. Thank you all again. Worth Last edited by Worth1; October 12, 2011 at 02:18 PM. |

Wow that is one LUCKY DOG ! Now that I am down to one dog (and somehow up to 2 cats!) my poochy sleeps on the floor on her cushion, but I bet she'd love a bed like that! Maybe it is a project for my 18 year old who has too much free time lately.... other than keeping the disasterous kitten away from pretty much everything in the house that she is destroying...

Very nice worth.
I have to fight for space on the bed my dogs sleep on. And they grumble about it when I make them move. Keith |

I get pinned. One gets behind my legs, one in front of my legs, and one by my chest. Never mind making them move - I can't move enough to accomplish that.

Worth, I love your manual skills! I have been doing a lot of handicraft like building furniture, tiling etc. and similar to what you said above, it was always important for me that my 3 kids could take part in it. Now it's my daughters who use the drill machine or the saw - my sons-in-law are the assistants! My son has built his own fitness room in the basement (isolating walls, floor and ceiling, decorating, electricity etc.) - this room is beautiful! (Too beautiful for a fitness center...) clara
