Not a huge cuke fan, but will eat; however, I love pickles.

I have heard that Asian cook them. But you have to let it mature a bit. Then peel it, slice in half, length wise, scoop the seeds out and slice about 1/4" thick. Cook it as you would zukes.
Any vegetable that you can eat ray, you can eat it cooked too.

There is simply no better way to grow them.

My parents just recently started trellising them when Dad discovered that it would leave him more room for tomato plants.

Yes, you can - Joe T. Garcia's tortilla soup comes to mind. It does change the flavor, but it's still very good. I prefer raw avocados for the sweet nutty flavors but it added a needed component to JT's soup.

Yes, I've had their soup. (It's good.) IIRC, the avocado is chopped and added after cooking, so essentially raw. Avocado turns very bitter when heated past a certain point. I do see a very few recipes, e.g. mashing into muffin batter and quick grilling under-ripe ones, but you will note that there is no canning recipe for avocados.

That's hilarious! Even Simon's Cat incorporates the behavior.

I believe their tiny little cat brains read the cuke as "snake".

Last few times there, many years ago, they would slip about a 1/3 of a big avocado in the bowl, then ladle that extremely hot chicken broth over everything- slightly cooked on the outside. Only place I knew could make a super clear chicken broth that wasn't a chinese place.

If her tiny little cat brain was able to read ... Uh. I'm pretty sure she can't read.

Oh crap.
