I just saw some instructions on the 13-13-13- and it said DO NOT top dress tomatoes squash and so on.
Calling hog wash on that one you just have to use it sparingly.

Osmocote is great. I use it in my "grow media". Top dress too, if you take the time to top water. It would take a LOT to be dangerous.

They make all kinds of the stuff what kind?
I saw 13-13-13 Osmocote for 99 dollars for 50 pounds on one site that must include shipping and handling because I can get it for around 20 dollars not Osmocote.

Osmocote is more expensive than regular fertilizer. it is time released. I pay about 80.00 for a 50# bag of it for my greenhouse. I use it in all of my potting mix AS WELL AS fertilizing with an injector. It has a polymer covering that acts as a water soluble membrane slowly allowing the fertilizer to leach out. It takes an enormous amount of it to burn or kill a plant. You can do it but it is very obvious you have too much. You can buy it as a 3 month slow release or 6 month slow release.

ok..Its getting interesting as I take a break from putting my "window" in.....now from memory Osmocote available here comes from Scotts in Australia...Now there are many varieties of it so I wonder if the Osmocote you buy in the USA is a special variety for Tomatoes ....so as I can go and have a look around...All garden centres actually sell it but in many varieties...Thanks Ron

No, Osmocote comes in vegetable formula or bloom builder for flowers. it just comes in different brands. there are a few specific brands of fertilizer which are marketed specifically for tomatoes or rhododendrons and azaleas....etc. but I don't think I have seen osmocote specifically for tomatoes in any of my catalogs or in stores.
