Default $5.95 a pack?? ugh!!

That's Burpees price for 25 seeds of Big Daddy! Some others have only 20 seeds for $5.95!

Didn't know they got so expensive! ugh!

Now I REALLY like saving seeds!!

The Burpee web site has many packets listed at $5.95 each. When you go to stores with Burpee seed racks, the packets usually are about 40% off. Unfortunately, the racks don't have all the varieties listed on their web site.

I have NEVER been able to find some of the popular Burpee seeds like Brandyboy, or 4th of July in seed racks. Usually just stuff I never heard of and probably just renamed.

Lurley -I understand several have tried and it is still not stable as an OP. Wintersown has some on their site, under some name, cant remember says they are still segragating. You might want to get some for a SASE, save you quite a few seasons of grow outs! Linda

You got to admire Burpee for their gall.
I wonder if their marketing department is run by a P.T. Barnum descendent.

Many folks have tried to make selections from saved F2 seed and see if they could get it out to an OP state and as far as Iknow, no ones has. You might want to do a search here but I do remember several of those threads being at Garden web.

Some even got some red selections, which to me is a bit curious, but that's OK b'c I'm one who hasn't been too happy with Burpee since they first introduced what they called Red Brandywine HYbrid, I bought both seeds and plants and compared them with my seeds of RB which were from a fellow SSE member in the early 90's and saw no difference.

Then for a couple of years nothing changed and then they renamed it from Red Brandywine Hybrid to, well, I give up b'c I can't find it now at the Burpee site, but it was an F1 of RB but the name changed to the county where Burpee does a bit of trials.

However, I did see that they called Pink Brandywine their exclusive and also had a PL Red Brandywine which they say is a descendent of RB itself. It is not. They probably got the seeds from Seeds by Design in CA which was the source of the two wrong RB's to Linda at TGS. And she keeps listing them b'c she says many of her costomers like them.

Aha, another try at Google and I found it, they renamed it Buck's County Red F1 and at first never said it was the same as Red Brandywine F1:

I gave up on growing out Brandy Boy when lots of propensity to leaf wilt showed up in all the F4s. But I had some excellent F2s. What I would suggest is growing out a few F1s from time to time, and collecting lots of F2 seeds.

This thread has made me realize that I'm overdue to distribute my stabilized F9 Brandy Boy seeds.

I have a vial of about 500 seeds. You should expect a potato-leafed plant with plenty of pink, beefsteak fruits. I collected the seeds from bagged blossoms in 2010, so they should be almost 100% viable.

Here's the deal: send me a 45¢ stamp and I'll send you ten seeds. If you want to make it easier for me, a self-addressed stamped envelope would be appreciated, but it's certainly not mandatory. I just want to get the seeds out to everyone with a minimum of fuss.

Please include your Tomatoville user name so that I can post when I've sent your seeds in this thread.

The address to send postage/SASE is:

Tomatoville, LLC
116 Sutton Road
Webster, MA 01570-3133

I will mail out your seeds on the same day that I receive your stamp/SASE. For our members that live outside of the U.S., please PM me and we can work out the details.

can keep my spirit
