An oxheart, I completly missed planting one in this season.
I have more hearts going this year ....
..not by good planning or thoughtful choice on my part ..
they seem to be doing well and efficient for me ...

I don't know how/why I never planted more hearts before

My earliest producers (hearts) this year are EM champion and Velmozha.

I am growing EM champion as well. Doing great
in a pot that's probably too small. none ripe yet for me though. are yours ripe already? Seems to do well here and determinate hearts are pretty unusual

Hey Karen ..

I have been having some EM champion and Velmozha with breakfast

everyday for about 12 days now ripe and tasty .......I am experimenting with 7 gallon square
containers ....the local weather has been fantastic for my garden ....even perhaps a bit hot for about week etc. The first ones were only medium ...and I was
trying for "Large " ....the Large are coming later I think ...

the seeds were sown late for me ....

mid march ....

I am wondering if many of the hearts named determinate

are actually "semi." determinate

Like Monomahks Hat etc. some hearts are called determinate

and semi or even indeterminate depending on source....

Oh ya .......Monomahks Hat is one I miss as well .....LOL

but I am trying to concentrate on the 7 gallon restriction this year.

BlackBear, one determinate heart to try (you probably knew this one already) is Zolotoe Serdtse, a golden/yellow one. It stays very tidy. The taste was good, even when ripened indoors.

I'll have to try more of the compact hearts, this year I am growing one Siberian variety called Obski Kupola (thanks Andrey). It looks like a heart in the pic, very compact growth, like a dwarf.

BlackBear, the Obski Kupola F1 is from a Russian (Siberian) company, I got it from Andrey but have also seen it on ebay.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tomato-Obski...3eff574d8#rwid

The growth so far is very stout and sturdy, no need for a support (yet), and if it stays this compact and bears fruit, it will be another favorite.

I guess I'm missing Rosella (cherry). I grew it last year and loved it. A seedling came up in the row of parsley so I left it, and now I'm tying it up and hoping that it's Rosella (because it's in about the right spot to have come from that plant). Next year, I'll definitely plant it!

Another seedling that came up is very likely Carbon Copy. I left that one too, right on the edge of the plot. I'm such an untidy gardener!

Last year, it was a bit of a toss up between Rosella and CC. At first I loved Rosella's sweeter taste, but as the season wore on, CC came into its own and both my dog and I thoroughly enjoyed chowing down on them in the garden

BTW my dog is quite the gourmet, preferring Sungold to anything else (when I grow it) and dropping the tomatoes that I toss to her if they aren't SG. What is more, when I tried to palm her off with Yellow Pear She backed up, and sat next to the SG plant in anticipation!!!!

Linda

what a smart discerning ....dawg !

high sugar plus that extra "tropical hint flavour"

the smart one can probably smell the unique foliage of SG a mile away

LOL

If it was Yellow Pear, I'd back up and sit next to SG in anticipation.

Guys, it sounds like I'll have to try the infamous Yellow pear myself, to find out what all these defaming comments are about...
