Default Edward, The Black Prince tomato variety

I will probably offer this newly named variety of tomato in the near future...maybe a generation increase in Hawaii just to prove its worth.

The seed within this fruit is F-1 as the pollen parent is Yamali Blue. I will test out the hybrid to see if the blue enhances anything in the cross...also Hawaii.

I named it for the English Prince Edward from the middle 1300's on account of his black armor. Yeah it has Black Prince in the pedigree.

The working name Edward, The Black Prince grows as if though it has Siberian roots...and in the cooler weather of the PNW it is difficult to get size and production and flavor. I would say that this clone has the subtle and different flavor that black tomatoes generally have..somewhat smokey and classically "tomatoey" and I suppose I would give it an 8 out of a scale of 10....quite favorable.

The fruit size is 2 3/4 inches to 3. There are three tomatoes in a paper bag of it and the aromatics were air-quaffed heartily as if it were a liquid. The variety is a go.

With several more crosses yet to extract of this variety....I will group these hybrid seeds as an F-1 family unit to test for combining ability in Hawaii this fall and winter.

A Ketchup made with the tomatoes...a bit of brown sugar, salt and apple cider vinegar.

OMG, it was good. I put it in the fridge to use on a meatloaf soon.
