A Few Big Ones

Went down to pick beans this morning and got a good solid bushel. And, while I was perched on my 5 gallon bucket to keep from bending over so much, I was looking over the tomatoes in my 5th row. There were a couple of pretty big ones, so I decided to check out a few and take a couple of pictures.

First is two plants of Sakharnyi Pudovichok. A Russian variety, it is putting out some huge tomatoes. They're still green and it makes my mouth water to think about how they will taste when they turn color.

Then there is this one, Erika d' Australie. It was PR'd to be a big tomato and it seems to be living up to that reputation.

And, Palestinian is also supposed to have some large fruit. What I didn't know was that it could produce this paste shape. Of course, this may also be a heart shape. There will be some more analysis coming down the road.

Our biggest have been Black Krim, A few Hearts, Bradley, and ?Cross?.

grrrr.... I have seeds for Sakharnyi Pudovichok, but did not grow it, lack of space. But when I see your fruits, it MUST be on my 2016 list!

It's one thing to grow a big tomato, but the real value is how it tastes. Clara, it maybe a good thing that you waited, and maybe not. It will all come down to how it tastes. I'll post that as soon as I have one to taste. For everyone else, I'll make several varieties available this fall after I get thru with seed saving.

Ted: I grew Sakharnyi Pudovichok last year. I do not think you will be disappointed in the taste!! Due to taste and production, I am growing it again in my own garden and have 4 plants growing in our community garden. It really is a great tomato; I got my seeds from Carolyn's seed offer...thanks again Carolyn! I will save seeds again and this year should have enough to share too!
