Default Container Grow-out Getting it on!

Since moving to a different house my container grow-outs have downsized considerably from 30+ to now 7.
Pics 1&2 showing the lineup.
3&4 Margaret Curtain doing her thing.
5. Tarasenko 6
6-9 Boyko's Tarasenko from Andrey and here's his description.
Quote:
this one is from my neighbor.
His surname is Boyko and he has been growing this variety for ages.
He call this variety Tarasenko, but don't remember what variety it is from a big family of Tarasenko varieties. I believe this is a cross from one Tarasenko variety and one mystery tomato variety. Thus I has named it Boyko's Tarasenko.
The plant is vigorous with multiflora truss. Very productive.
10. This is a neighbors plot as seen from my balcony with 4 plants.

Ami, I can't believe you have downsized the number of your tomatoes that much! Only for this year? Anyway your plants are looking great, as usual!

clara, yes I'm down to about 20 plants this year including my surrogate at work. Still enough to keep me busy and next year I'll be growing out some dwarfs as I have seed for several varieties. Just picked my first ripe tomato and it was a Margaret Curtain. I'll post some pictures and thoughts on how it tasted.

Your pictures are inspiring as always!

I follow your techniques with great interest. Are those the styrofoam coolers? If so, how many quarts, and what did you fill them with? Does it keep the root zone cooler?

No, these are top watered plastic pots ranging from 6-8gal and 2-20 gal geopots.

The styrofoam coolers work great if there is a roof over their head from which you can attach lines with tomato clips to support the plants. And yes the styrofoam coolers do keep the root zone temperatures at a more constant temperature. For the aggregate I use a soiless mix with perlite, bio-ferts, lime and a azomite equivalent I get here in Germany.

The plants look great with what looks to be extremely good fruit set. My container plants started out good this year but then got hit by a herbicide drift and they never recovered enough so I just yanked them after a few weeks. My in ground plants that got hit by the herbicide drift recovered fairly well and most of them are still producing fairly well.
I wish you continued success through the season.

Thanks Bill. This year has turned out to be one of the better one's weather rise from what started out to be one of the worst with rain the whole month of May and a late plant-out.

I admire the tenacity you display every year in the face of adverse conditions you have to deal with in your tomato growing adventures and yet you endure to come back year after year to what must be a passion you have for these wonderful fruits as do all the members here at TVille.
