Chocolate Cherry vs. Sunchocola?
I'm growing Chocolate Cherry this season, and thinking about Sunchocola (based on its famous kin for next year). For those who have grown them, how do they compare, mostly in size and sweetness? Anyone grown both together? I didn't choose Black Cherry because Chocolate Cherry is supposedly very similar, but larger. Still waiting on my first ripe CC.

Haven't grown Sunchocola yet. Chocolate Cherry is slightly bigger and a little sweeter than Black Cherry from my experience

One year I grew all the Sun cherries. I liked Sun Chocola the best. I actually like it better than Sungold. Flavor is good, and yield is excellent. Stink bug bites were my biggest problem. The bugs seemed to like it the best, plus the dark color made the bites show.
I liked the pink cherry, mild flavor but pleasant. Sungreen was a flop for me, and Sun Lemon had a very high yield, but unimpressive flavor. Esterina is a better hybrid yellow cherry. |

Cole_Robbie, how does it compare to Black Cherry in case you've grown it?
I would describe BC as being sweet and sour, with thick skin and very prone to splitting. Plants are massive, production pretty good. |

You may want to consider Black Opal as well - it is an excellent variety, from the same breeder as Rosella.

This year, Black Opal is one of my most anticipated 'newcomers': there already is a large truss waiting to ripen, and I've covered it with a cloth so the flying menace (birds) cannot get to it first..
Gelatinous texture sounds exciting. |

I haven't grown Black Cherry in several years. I usually grow Purple Bumble Bee and Black Vernissage, mostly for their striking appearance. I was never a big fan of Black Cherry. I'd say Sun Chocola had equal or better flavor, and much higher yield. |
