Default Fall Container Planting

Getting ready for the Fall planting. The seven DYI self-waterers (18 GAL tote box type) were cleaned up, chlorinated, bottom supports reworked, hosed out and are ready to go. On August 1st, I started seeds of the following varieties in Jiffy Mix: Sioux, Super Sioux, Mule Team, Mortgage Lifter, Arkansas Traveler, Box Car Willy, Druzba, Dona, Better Boy and Early Girl. Around August 21st, I'll set the seedlings out and we're off to the races.

In an effort to find a good reliable hot weather variety, I started some Solar Fire seeds (TGS) on July 10th. Plants are coming along fine and will go into 5 gal containers tomorrow. Other hot weather varieties didn't work out for me in the past. What the heck, I'll give it one more try. High temps for the day have been 88-90 falling to 75-76 at night. They'll continue in that range through August and then should start to show slight declines as we move into September. Garaj

My neighbor's helping me put together my homemade
self-watering containers this weekend and next.

I've got the following 5-wk old tomato varieties ready to
transplant:

- Cherokee Purple
- Kellog's Breakfast
- Brandywine Red (the biggest & thickest)
- Sungold
- Brandy Boy
- Brandywine
- Brandywine Sudduth
- Uncle Steve's Oxheart
- Orange Heirloom
- Sweet 100 (this will be for the blue birds)
- Matt's Wild Cherry

I'll take pics as soon as I've got them set up! 8)

I ended up with 9 DIY earthbox containers... and I'm working
on a 10th!

These bootleg earthboxes will be a mainstay in my garden!

I used my cell phone to take this pic back in October.
Will take more current pics during this holiday season.

Just went out back and took another pic. It's dusk, so
lighting's not great.

I'm staking with 1/2" PVC pipe and thicker bamboo. It's
quite a hodgepodge in my garden. I'm no Martha Stewart,
that's for sure!
