Can I 'pot up' onion sets?
Even though it's time to plant onions here, I can't plant my garden yet. Waiting on someone to come plow it and get it fenced.
I have some amish bottle onion sets that are already sprouting and trying to grow. Can I plant these into pots/cups and then transplant them into the garden in a few weeks or should I just leave them in the box and wait? Thanks! |

I agree. Don't see why you can't. We start them from seed in pots indoors in the dead of winter. Try it, especially if they're already sprouting. I bet they'll do fine.

I've found very little that actually can't be potted up, pres-tared or transplanted. For those who like to get up close and personal with the things they grow, it's the perfect thing to do (aside from the practicality of it all!). This year I am having a good time and good luck starting beets from seeds and then separating them out for later transplanting - so good spacing, less weeding, hopefully more uniform, larger roots.

Thanks all.
Guess I'll pot up the onion sets tomorrow. |
