It blooms but not every year.
The thing puts out a huge long cluster of beautiful white blooms.
Just so as you know the Joshua tree is a type of Yucca it is Yucca brevifolia.
Joshua Tree National Park was right down the road from where I was stationed for communications school.
I practically lived there on weekends and got to see many of the desert plants in bloom after a rain.
I cannot express to you all how much I love the desert.

I planted the vine back in early March, I believe, and I thought it was never going to bloom. Finally some of the buds are opening up. This is the first one and I think it looks a little gnarly.

Is that hamelia? I won't see any hummingbirds until the fall migration, usually it begins sometimes as early as mid August.

They usually move away from the plant to make a chrystalles. I have wasp in my garden that like to eat them. I raise some inside my sunroom, lots of predators outside.

Anisacanthus quadrifidus Texas native purchased from the LBJ wild flower center years ago.

A real cactus of a plant needs little water but blooms when watered.

I just found a passion fruit vine and flower and fruit,right over the grave site of my first Doberman a few days ago. I will have to make sure it doesn’t get weed whacked or mowed. It’s native and I love the native passiflora here.
I had tropical ones in AZ, been thinking about getting some here,will keep them in pots and bring them in along with the citrus in winter.
I’m extending my garden and will be adding a lot more flowers this fall,mostly native stuff for the birds and bees,plus fruit trees and berries.
