This asparagus bed was made about 2006 planted with eleven Guelph Millennium Asparagus roots. This year over the harvest period of about four weeks a record will be kept to determine the production. There appears to be about 8 plants still alive and thriving in this 4 by 8 foot bed.The first shoots 2013 were picked today.

Fourteen ounces of asparagus harvested today. Total to date 95 ounces or 5.9 pounds.

The asparagus is finished for 2013.The stalks are now allowed to grow to produce food for the 2014 harvest.Some shoots grow about six inches in one night at this stage of growth.

How long to you intend to keep these plants going? As long as they produce?

I didn't cut the new shoots for several days and they go away from me. They are now finished for this year. I have never pushed the season for them, but from reading, I understand they can be cut for as long as six weeks. Next year I will push the envelope.
