I have tried captain lucky for the first time this year (shared some of my extra plants and ripened tomatoes) and it has become an instant favorite with everyone who has tasted it. Captain Lucky will always be on my grow list.

Great service, Fred, Thanks!

I'm looking forward to seeing how the cherries do in my unheated winter greenhouse here in So. Cal.

They might do OK. Alot of our breeding stock was originally selected to be able to do well at the coast. While that is not a main selection goal anymore, our varieties do tend to do well in cooler summers (or San Diego winters)

Yesterday was a great day. We harvested about 20 lbs of Captain Lucky purely for eating purposes. Lucky lunchtime today...

And I found a heart-shaped Cherokee Purple. Who knows if the shape will show up in the next generation, but one can always dream.

Fred, on the QT, ahem, there already is a CP heart out there and it might be available for 2013 if the growouts went OK. Someone sent me seeds for an Indian Stripe Heart and it is, and I'll be offering it in my next seed offer here at TV.

Someone also sent me seeds for an Orange Minsk Heart and last year there weren't enough seeds to offer, and it was a heart on growout, and I just got the seeds back from the person who was doing the seed production, and I need to confirm with him that it remained a heart and if so I'll be offering that one in my next seed offer as well.

it didn't surprise me at all that the IS heart showed up as well as the CP heart since those two are very much related.

So it's not a dream at all, although heat and other envieonmental factors can give heart shapes, but it's not a genetic change.

I've been tracking down what's called Cuore De Jade which one person here showed a picture of but it wasn't a heart at all, as it should be with Cuore as the first word. There's a thread here at TV about different shapes and someone showed a picture of, I think it was Green Zebra, I'm not sure, that was heart shaped, but I know no more about that one as to a heat problem of a genetic change.

I contacted the source of the Cuore seeds and asked him where he got it from and he just sent me contact information. And why the interest? B/c as far as I know it's only Reinhard Kraft in Germany who has been breeding two different lines of a green heart. So I asked him about this Cuore one and he said as far as he knew no one else in Europe was doing so.

So now I can send the contact info to Reinhard b/c this Cuore one also showsd up at Ventmarin with absolutely no information at all.

Anyway, well I remember the song from Man of La Mancha which goes some thing like..... dream the impossible dream.

Carolyn,

It looks like I will be well-advised to keep an eye out for your seed offer this year. I would really like to compare some of the hearts I am working on with some of the better ones already available.

Fred, no need to look for my seed offer b/c you sent me some varieties two years ago and I'd like to reciprocate if we can find some I might suggest that would be of interest to you.

Of the ones I mentioned above I do have seeds for the IS Heart as well as the Orange Minsk Heart, I finally found the picture of the latter that he sent me, but I don't have seeds for the CP Heart/

I know where it came from and I know to whom it was sent for seed production for a seed site, but I was told to keep my mouth shut, but I'll translate that to to keeping my fingers silent.

In the next day or so I'll PM you and let's see what we might come up with.

I saw blush this spring at McDonald's Garden Center. They
had a little rack of Seeds of Change. If I see it this spring,
I'll grab a pack.

Fred,

very nice story - thank you for sharing!
Who is Alex?

I am assuming you do not want to reveal the parents of this tomato?
