Ceylon?

What do you guys think of this one?

I’m going to order some seeds for it and just wondered what I was getting myself into.

Large plant?
Good production?

I have thing for ruffled tomatoes and so do a lot of my friends.

Worth, Don't buy seeds. Let me check and see if I have some. I don't recall if I liked it or not....

I know nothing about it first hand, but always heard it was more of a novelty than anything else. Even one of the seed companies did not recommend it when I asked about it.

It's a pretty little tomato but I have not heard any positive comments about the flavor so far either.

That's essentially what they told me. And this was a seed company with it listed in their catalog.

Grew it last year for novelty. The taste was not bad, but the total production was quite low as for my indoor standards...

I grew it because I like the way it looked too. The flavor was good, but they went bad so quick, it was tough to eat them. They were also seedy.
I recommend Red Star instead. They ripened earlier, tasted better, and didn't go bad quick. I think the production is better too, but I may be wrong(I need to start writing more notes!) I got the pkt. of seeds from Burpee a few years ago, but they don't seem to carry it. Totally Tomatoes had a photo in their catalog.

I grew it in a container in 2006. Faily prolific but rotted on the vine fairly quickly. Taste was so so. It was very seedy. Let me know if you want some seeds.

Thanks all for the replies, ‘seems as though not much good is said about Ceylon.
Lots of seeds, rots too quick, flavor not so well, production not up to standard.

I will give it a try in my experiment patch though.

Costoluto Genovese was a big hit with everyone I gave it to, so as usual I have to try everything myself, just of course to see for myself.

I more or less wanted to find some good small tomatoes to put into sampler baskets to give or sell to folks.

I thought a small ruffled tomato would look nice in with the rest of the mix.

Remy about what size is red star?
I’m looking for something no larger than a golf ball.
The reports on the, ‘longevity of Ceylon, is sort of a turn off.
I don’t need a rotten tomato in every basket.

Here's a copy of the Burpee blurb from the pkg. I saved:
Excellent tasting, 1" diameter, bright red, thin skinned, cherry type tomatoes. Uniquely shaped with 6 lobes which, when cut in half, resemble a star. Indeterminate. Ready to pick about 80 days after plants are set out.

I remember them being about an inch or so wide. They grew really well for me and started ripening much earlier than the 80 days. I know I ate my first one a few days before Azoychka ripened so it was close to 60 days. And as I said before, they stayed fresh way longer than Ceylon.

Ceylon and Red Star are both just loaded with tomatoes and still putting on.
Both plants are around 5 feet tall with many branches and blossom trusses.

Now I cant wait to taste them, if anything I bet they are way better than the (cue balls) I am getting at the store.

I just thought I would update their progress and what I think of them so far.

Since it seems only Totally Tomatoes is carrying Red Star. I mailed Ceylon seeds to Glen at Sand Hill when I made an order this spring. I enclosed a note stating how I felt the tomatoes were superior to Ceylon. He sells Ceylon. He did write a note on my sweet potato receipt that he will give it a try. So that is pretty neat.

My Ceylon is huge and also loaded with fruit.
