Early Rouge question

This is the first year to grow this variety. Both plants look very delicate and wimpy. Does ER have a more open or wispy/droopy appearance compared to something like Earliana or Lida Ukranian?

I grew it so long ago I couldn't remember what the plant habit was like so I checked a few back issues of the SSE Yearbook to see how others described it,.

No one reported any wispy droopy foliage, just normal RL and det to semi-det. And almost all said a very vigorous plant with high fruit yield. Comments about taste varied.

I am growing Early Rouge for the first time this year. I went and looked for it among my 30 day old early tomatoes, and it is just as robust as every other variety I'm growing.

I grew it last year and my results were like the two responses you've done got. Not wispy. A semi-det. I would say. Very good production and average taste for me. Not back top. But had many I liked better for taste. Yours don't sound like mine at all. JD

I remembered after I posted I got my seeds from Sandhill Preservation. And the description there is identical to what mine were. JD

Not wispy here either. But I do think I recall that the blossoms were an interesting peachy color ... quite different from any others I've grown.

I have grown it many times and maintain the variety.

I don't know what you have but you don't have Early Rouge.

Well, I'll just let the plants grow and see what happens, and what I get. I also purchased my seeds from Sandhill.

Mmaybe they look delicate and wimpy b'c they're not happy as seedlings and as they grow they'll not show the wispy/droopy dissected foliage that many of the heart shaped varieties do show. Especially since you just mentioned delicate and wimpy and not the other more specific traits I just mentioned.

As you say, time will tell.

I am wondering if that is the case, probably so. Now, I need to discover what they lack as to get them to become a little more vigorous. Maybe more sun? I will have to see. Thanks to all for the responses.
