Default Pickled Cherry Peppers

We had some small 1" diameter pickled cherry peppers from a deli counter last night. They had an just intriguing bit of heat to them, not enough to cause outright pain.

I have found several sources for both sweet and hot cherry peppers, but I'm not sure which kind I had. Can some cherry pepper experts give me some advice on varieties?

I like the cherry variety labeled Hot in most nurseries...I get seed from Seeds from Italy and grow their hot cherry....The plants are compact, early and productive...When canned the heat amount is just right for my taste...Almost any smaller pimento type pepper works also but will generally have no heat...
Alma Paprika is another thick walled pepper with some heat that is great for canning and cooking with.

Seeds from Italy carries a variety called "Satan's Kiss" and I have seed but have not grown it yet. From what I understand, it is pretty hot in the raw state but loses about half its heat after cooking or pickling.

Nightshade, it sounds like you may have had "Peppadew". A lot of Deli's are using pickled "Peppadew" peppers. They're from South Africa and protected by the government there. The seeds are hard to find, but not impossible.

I ordered from Seeds of italy and was very happy with the haul.

hmm, i'll have to start searching for a source Ted....if any of the suppliers have thawed out yet from their unseasonable freeze, that is.

And by the way, no matter how much i beg, do NOT let me have that pepper spreadsheet when you finish it. i can't afford another vegetable habit.

Jan...I don't have the Satan's Kiss, just a hot cherry pepper from Seeds from Italy...If you want some seeds I have plenty...They are last years seeds..
