Nice patch you have. Bought some of the same rope-handled totes @ Walmart for $4 for the same purpose. Seem like they may last a couple seasons before the sun wears 'em out.

Thanks, he likes helping out!

My wife bought one of those baskets for laundry so I had to get them next time I went to walmart. They were 5 bucks for me. You got a deal! lol

The one in Elizabethtown had them for $4; just 12 miles up the road, in Radcliff, Wally was selling them for $5 also. They squeeze every dollar out of every area they can.

Update. Pics taken a few days ago.

Brandywine Sudduth. I picked the bottom two today. Very good but low producer.

Gold Medal. The plant is my biggest and has a lot of fruits on it. Non are ripe yet.

Nice plants!

Did you drill a few drain holes in the bottom Walmart containers?

Also, next Season you may want to work in some Perlite into your Mix as it tends to compress over time, and keeping the roots aerated is very important in container gardening.

Yeah I have holes drilled in bottom and rocks in the bottom. My mix this year is compost/manure, peat moss, and vermiculite. I also fertilize with tomato-tone.

martomic,

Next Season, you may want to take out the rocks altogether. For the volume of the containers you have, filling them with your potting mix will make your plants even more vigorous. You will be amazed at the end of this Season when you pull out the root ball, just how much they completely fill the container. More dirt to play in = bigger, more productive tomatoes!

I will give that a try thanks! I was looking forward to seeing what the roots are looking like in there.
