What I have used is the quart of hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup of baking soda, teaspoon of liquid dish soap mix. Mix it together thoroughly, rub in into the hair well, wait 15-20 minutes and then shampoo it out.

A friend of mine got sprayed by one once.
I like the smell of skunks.

I have used tomato juice and a couple other tomato products like soup or sauce or paste. Add the Dawn because it does dissolve the oil in the offending "juice". It can also add comfort to the puppy with a scent that is not so foul. That puppy will be unlikely to repeat the problem. Once is enough for most any critter.

We had a german shepherd pup that loved to chase skunks and cars - not the smartest pup! He bit a moving car only once but went after skunks a couple times.

Like ContainerTed, we used dish detergent and any tomato product like a shampoo. Try to do the first bath outside because the wash off will smell too. Hey, its TOMATOVILLE!

I ran hounds for many years and had dogs that would bump a skunk. I've tried many concoctions and nothing was too effective. Time and fresh air is the best cure.

I've used this method many times and it the only thing that has ever worked for me and didn't kill the dog.

Thanks y'all. She is back in the house. She doesn't smell unless you smell her face.....I didn't want to get any in her eyes. I sponged on face VERY carefully and she's much more cuddlely now. I think she'll think twice about "playing" with a skunk, but she is on my poopoo list for trying to kill one of my chickens!

Good to hear the family is almost back to normal. But, I am curious to know what you used to help the pup.
