from the Love Apple Farms newsletter:

" Tomato Extravaganza Day. To ensure you get a bumper crop of tomatoes this year, we're holding a free-to-the-public totally tomatoes educational day. From 10 to 5 on Saturday, April 30, we will have rolling tutorials teaching you exactly how to spot and eradicate pests organically, make a proper tomato cage, fertilize for higher yield and better taste, grow great tomatoes in containers, prune for health and climate challenges, water based on science not guess-work, deer proof your tomatoes, teach those gophers a lesson, seed save your favorite varieties, reduce diseases, and plant your 'maters using our widely renowned tomato planting technique. Don't miss this event! Held at 46 El Pueblo Road in Scotts Valley. We'll keep you posted about the big day as it approaches."

They also sell plants, starting March 26, and have classes. "Go to www.LoveAppleFarms.com to view the variety list and to see where we will be having our sale."

Other heirloom-tomato plant sales in No. Calif.:
