Sugar Snap Peas in an Earthtainer

Hi folks,

G here, I'm getting the itch to start this springs peas! My question is: Before planting sugar snaps in my Earthtainer, do I need to add any fertilizer or inoculant? The planter was new last season and grew 2 big tomato plants. My first time with a container like this and I had plenty of fun with it. I have found info about these peas in self watering containers, but nothing about the fertilizers and inoculant.

I'm familiar with growing sugar snaps in the garden but never in potting mix. I'm willing to experiment if anybody has any experience or suggestions. I'll put some in the garden as well but, last season the voles took about 50% of what we planted.

Raybo does snap peas in his Tainers, and I was planning on doing them in mine this season. So, I have the same questions you do and hopefully Ray sees this thread and responds!

I grew Sugar Snap Peas a few years ago and they went crazy in the EarthTainers:

As I recall, I put 3 cups 10-10-10 fertilizer in the trench - just as with tomatoes. I also used Actinovate as a soil drench 2 weeks after planting.

I planted peas in my soilless raised bed last year. They didn't do well without the inoculant.

This year, actually yesterday, I planted peas straight up in a raised bed with topsoil and manure.

Maybe I'll give the soilless bed another try with inoculant.
