Yeah, that mix could work then. If it is necessary or not, that is hard to say.

hockman, if your research lead to Al's article, then you know why the bark bits are required.

Finding the fines always turns out to be the hardest part. In my case I was able to find "Pine Bark Mini-Nuggets" at the local big box (Lowes). The particle size range is technically too wide, but you could use it successfully without screening. In my case I screened out and used what passed through 1/2" wire cloth.
