The grow bag set up should be fine. Anything that gives you a barrier so nematodes can't get in. I got the 7 gallon nursery pots for free from workers doing a landscape job, putting in a long hedge, then I just put a layer of thick plastic under them, no more nematodes, or bacterial wilt.
My Earthboxes were accumulations over time, but they don't go bad and the potting mix is reused year after year. There are folks getting 30 years and counting out of their Earthboxes, so they end up cost effective, especially if you buy them when they have free shipping specials. (Always on black Friday)
