Default Potting Up

What is everyone using to replant to a 4" pot? I am using the same mix that I use to start them and was wondering if this OK or if I need to be using a regular potting mix. They seem to be doing fine in this light mix but of course the price is much more than regular potting mix.
Thanks
Chuck B

Hey Chuck - I use the same - Fafard 3b or MetroMix 360. Then again, I purchase about 45 2.8 cu foot bags of the stuff each season...so have plenty!!!

I start my seeds in the flats with starter mix, but when I transplant them into larger pots, I always use good quality potting soil. The way I figured it, potting soil has more fertility, and it makes the seedlings nice and strong. Should I be using starter mix?

Lots of different things work. I use soilless mix because it is less likely to waterlog, and I've never experienced damping off using it. I don't feed my seedlings until they go to their final resting place. However, as I said, there are lots of valid techniques....I use what works for me!

I use regular potting mix in the four inch pots in case I have any leggy seedlings. It offers more support for tall plants than the fluffy seed starter, which is still pretty light even after its wet.
