Varied Variegata

Variegata are up. On of about six is purple, the same colouration as Peruvian Purple seedlings. The rest have the usual lime-green foliage. How should Variegata look? Thanks.

Variegata seedlings should have purple cotyledons, esp. when they get some direct sun. The green cot plants are crosses or results of crosses.

From what I've observed of those ornamental and other hots I've been growing, the following varieties should have purple cots -

Purple Robe (very dark)
Pretty Purple (very dark)
Pretty in Purple (not quite as dark - and true leaves are mottled deep green and violet - quite unique)
Vietnamese Multicolor (quite dark)
Spectral (very dark)
Gemstone (very dark)
Indigo (very dark)
Variegata (quite dark)
Trifetti (quite dark)
Filius Blue (medium darkness)
Bolivian Rainbow (shaded purple)
Five Color (shaded purple)
Little Nubian (very dark)
Festival (can vary from very to slightly dark)


The following should have green cot leaves - and indications of purple mean you have a cross:

Centennial Rainbow
Peter
Yellow Peter
Gumdrop
Fish (variegation doesn't show up till a few true leaves)
Bouquet (may have a slightly purplish cast - still segregating)
Pearl
all of the hab types (Bird, Billy Goat, etc)
Skinny
Prettier in Purple

Hope that helps. Hot Peppers cross very easily - since they can grow so well in small pots, it is always interesting to grow out a plant of the unexpected leaf color just to see what you get.

These variegated peppers are interesting -
I had an Equador Hot, just send up one branch,
with variegated foliage, and peppers -
When green, they have white stripes -
and they mature to red - keeping the red stripes ~

Sounds like I have a cross and I'll grow it out.
There deep-purple one must be the real McCoy.
I'll transplant them in the next few weeks.
