I thought some of you might find this article interesting.

It would be AWESOME if the technology has progressed to make this economically feasible. Plenty of salt water around!

Thanks for posting.

And when the time comes to recycle old solar panels, will anyone step up? Or will it be just more for the landfill?

I wonder if not using all the other detrimental things makes up for the mirrors' ecological footprint while providing food where none could be grown before. There are too many of us not to look for ways to feed ourselves.

I dislike when an article about solarponics takes a turn for bashing GMO's before even getting to the article. GMO plants are not about increasing yield. They are about decreasing cost to produce.

The rest of the article is basically an integrated production system with solar power producing fresh water along with electricity. The water is used to produce crops. There is nothing groundbreaking in the article, just a nice integration of technologies.

I agree. It was a confusing lead into that article. I was confused and thought i had the wrong page. They could have simply stated that they also reduce costs by not having to buy the more expensive GMO seed. Anyone interested will catch that and understand that there is no GMO risk in this operation.
