Default Trading/buying seeds?

Are we able to trade/buy tomato seeds on this site (with a SASE)? I'm new and am humbled by the knowledge of so many of the members, but maybe there are other newbies who would be interested?

Buying seed is prohibited however trading seed or receiving seed via a sase is all good. What varieties are you looking for?

Oh, you will quickly see lots of trading (or giving away) goes on here! People love to share seeds saved. I have a reasonable stash. Is there something you are looking for? Also check out the wanted/ trade forums to see what people have to offer.

Go to the two seed subforums that are farther down on this page and then read the guidelines at the top of the WANTED one and yes, no money can be used to buy seeds.

The WANTED subForum is the place to list what you are looking for and NO trades needed. If someone doesn'thave the seeds you are after they may give you a link to some place that does. And it's always good to have a link to Tania's superb data based website when looking for specific varieties and seed sources since she features pages for over 4k varieties, most with pictures, histories, and feedback from others.

http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/Main_Page

The TRADE Forum is for those who want to trade seeds and each person gives instructions. The TRADE Forum is also the place that many folks, myself included, who are making seed offers and want NO trades.

When new here at Tville it's always good for all newbies to look around at the various Forums to see what's there so they can better decide where they should post whatever.

And a warm welcome from me as well.

Hope this helps,

Carolyn

I'm confused, Carolyn. You write here: "The WANTED subForum is the place to list what you are looking for and NO trades needed."

Mischka writes in the guidelines: "The trading forums are not to be used to ask for free seeds or plant materials for postage/SASE".

If I list what I'm looking for without having seeds to trade, aren't I asking for free seeds? (don't want to break any rules)

If you look under the title of the Wanted Forum it says:

Post which seed varieties you are looking for here, along with the varieties you have to offer in exchange.

In the Wanted section for example, I was looking for a tomato seed. I listed the seed I was looking for. I did include the offer that I had other seed for trade or would send a SASE.

Now I could have just asked for the seed without a trade or a SASE. I think it is up to the person who has the seed to decide if they want to send the seed to you without a trade or a SASE and alot of folks do just passing or gifting it forward. You can not offer to pay for the seed you are asking for.

I have looked at previous posts and generally what I have seen in the wanted section, is folks who maybe are looking for a specific seed or two type.

In the Haves section I listed that I had tomato and pepper seeds available. You can not ask for money for those seeds or a trade. You can ask for a SASE though.

No matter which forum you use, Haves or Wanted, no money can exchange hands.

If at anytime your unsure about your post, ask Mischka or pm one of the Admids, they will help you.

Hi Starlight. This doesn't answer my question. Isn't asking for seed without trade, the same as asking for free seeds for postage or SASE (which is against the rules according to Mischka's guidelines)?

From the guidelines:

All postings should be in the context of arranging items for trade. An exception would be when members conduct offers for the benefit of other members. The trading forums are not to be used to ask for free seeds or plant materials for postage/SASE or to offer to buy or sell said items. Posts of such nature will be deleted and the offending member(s) will forfeit their membership without prior warning.

&&&&&

Folks have interpreted the above in different ways.

If you click on some of the requests in the Wanted Forum you'll see that most are simply looking for seeds they want from others or commercial places where they can buy the seeds if no one has them. Some will post in the wanted subforum what they have for trade and some will say look in the trade Forum for my listings.

If someone has the seeds being requested they will say please PM me your address.

So I don't see the problem. There are some who don't read the Guidelines and offer to buy seeds from others and that is definitely prohibited.

I don't know if that helps, I hope it does, and as I just said, folks interpret the guidelines in different ways, not a problem as long as offers to BUY seeds is not the issue.

Carolyn, who has to make a request in the Wanted Forum today for blistering HOT pepper seeds for Freda, the woman who does so much to help me here at home and was just here feeding my old cat, taking cracked corn out to the 11 deer who were in my back yard, and telling me that her son and nephew wanted REAL HOT SALSA, so I will oblige.

Thank you for your reply Carolyn. I assume from what you write that it's OK to express a wish for (free) seeds. I think, to avoid confusion, that the guidelines concerning this might be worded differently. Perhaps: "The trading forums are not to be used for commercial transactions."?
