Dwarf hunters
Looking for some dwarf hunters opinions here. I'm wanting to select the dwarf seedlings here, they are F2 so I'm expecting roughly 25%. I've read stem width and height are what to go by. Problem here is stem width seems too similar, some are shorter with lower cotyledon heights. Am I too early?

I read somewhere that you can start to tell better when the second set of true leaves is in.

I would separate them into 6-packs, or small individual pots to make them grow faster. It should be easy to pick out the dwarfs very quickly.

I'm hoping to be able to select the dwarves so I can pot them up and dispose of the rest. I reckon I'll give them a few days before I were to pot them all up, but thanks for the suggestion. Especially because I've only got room for (hopefully) 4 dwaves.

I also second : They need to be potted.
the puple stems happen alot. I think of two reason: 1- cooler temperatures. 2- Phosphorus deficiency: Possibly can be because of cool soil temperature. Gardeneer |

The purple stems don't bother me, my tomatoes always do that because my lights are in my basement which is in the upper 50s/lower 60s.

JM, I had the same problem.
All my stems looked thick, even at 4 weeks old. I potted them up and still had trouble. I might have tossed a couple plants thinking they were not dwarf. Even with 3 true leaves, I did not see a huge difference in foliage. They all had some hints of rugose type leaves. And maybe none were dwarfs, and I just had one that was a tad shorter indeterminate. I am growing out 4 out of 9 that sprouted. One i think is a dwarf, because it is shorter. The others are potato leaf, so I'm growing out of curiosity. |

what constitutes a "dwarf?"
I guess this can be grown in a 5 gallon pot or something? |

Yes, I had done that thanks. But I still wasn't sure. Hopefully I'll be able to tell in the next couple days otherwise I'll pot them up and let them grow a bit longer like Cole Robbie suggested.

Not all dwarfs are small in size and height. Some are det some are indet. The ones that are indet can grow over 4ft tall and can get bushy too. So you have to treat them accordingly. JMO Gardeneer |

Thanks, kinda confusing - even when reading the dwarf threads. Envisioned something like a Japanese bonsai, but not so. Also was "seeing" a small pot decorated with small plastic farmers at the base of the plant with maybe even a tiny miniature barn with silo in the middle of a patio table. (thinking like railroad replica décor)...
