Orange Jazz and some others

I had to show you this 1.2 lb Orange Jazz I picked today. Not quite ripe yet but a real beauty. Some others pictured are Captain Lucky, Rebel Yell, Indian Stripe, Arkansas Traveler, GGWT, Eva Purple Ball, JD's Special C-Tex, Margaret Curtain, and Sungold & Sunrise Bumble Bee cherries in bowls. I grow in Earthboxes. We had a great year in the Chicago area. Don't you love it when the weather cooperates!(Sorry about the sideways pictures, can't figure out how to fix)

Gorgeous tomatoes. Our summer heat has about taken us out of the tomato harvest for now. Lots of eggplant and okra though.

This Orange Jazz weighs 2 1/4 lbs. Unusually large. most of the rest seem around a pound.

Orange Jazz is my new favorite orange tomato for taste. I wanted to be sure it was the correct tomato because of my racoon situation so I searched many blogs where it was mentioned. There seems to be a great deal of variation in the shape from the photos I have seen. That one above is more fluted than what I grew. That is a giant! Yummy!!

Unfortunately mine have yet to ripen and none even close to that size. I think my OJ got a bit pushed out from some of the cherries which went rogue - my fault of course. I will probably give it another shot next year in a spot where it's going to have a bit more real estate! Can't wait to taste it and see how you like it!

I grew Orange Jazz last year too. It is a sweet, juicy tomato with a fruity texture. Love it. The only drawback is it tends to have a good sized hard core.

Orange Jazz can also be affected by pathogens. For us, at times it is a monster plant. Other times (particularly in Mexico under higher disease pressure) the plants struggle and the fruits are small.

OJ is a great tomato, my only issue is they get so huge. Like almost every one a pound or more. I wonder sometimes if I culled all but one fruit if it wouldn't weight 20lbs.
