yellow shoulders
i've got one plant in the ground, a mortgage lifter, the rest are in a RGGS, plant was doing great til the fruit started to ripen and the shoulders are staying yellow, from what i've read it's a potassium problem, and they say if the fruit is larger than 1 1/2 inches in diameter, supplements won't help, anyone ever have this problem? and can it be remedied with the larger fruit? they are all bigger than 1 1/2 inches, and there are quite a few tomatoes, thanks--tom

I don’t think it can be remedied once it happens unfortunately. The hot hot dry summer here has resulted in the issue in some of my fruit as well. Those in pots much more susceptible for me I think more as a function of heat and difficulty maintaining moisture than a deficiency in the soil. Makes for waste on a fruit due to the uneven ripening and hard pithy tissue on the shoulders.
Unaffected parts are fine to eat but it is disappointing to see it in big nice tomatoes. KarenO |
