Potato planting-did I mess up?

I just sliced the potates so that there were a couple of sprouted eyes on each side and stuck them in the potting mix and covered them with straw. I didn't treat the cut end with anything. Are they doomed?

cannot be resuscitated

But before they conk, they should grow some new sprouts for some new vines that will make a boat load of potatoes!
