i have around 10 varieties in my container, and i got about 2 cups of basil minus the stems i cut off.

that's around probably 30 plants all in all. (planted close together in plastic cups then transplanted to it's current container)

you'll need A LOT of basil plants go get a pound worth. lol.

i dunno, my plants are 2 months old and around 13 inches tall. i cut it back by half.

here they are now:

for reference, the thai basil there to the right is the original height of all the other basil plants.

i have since ammended the soil with coffee grounds and spraying with some organic foliar fertilizer

As well as basil and tomato compliment each other in the kitchen, I find that they also do the same in the garden. When the two share space in the same plot, they seem to protect and enhance each other. Since you will be using both for dinner anyway, why not grow them side-by-side? The only down-side to that is that whilst in your tomato patch, once you get that sweet wisp of basil's aroma, you may just pick an armload of each and head for the kitchen, totally procrastinating all of the chores you meant to do in the garden.

I did that companion planting. Instead of tomato, I planted basil beside a "not looking good" eggplant. Now, the eggplant is doing much better and started to produce flowerbuds again...

Basil is an amazing plant...not just for what it does in the kitchen.

Masiyahan sa iyong eggplants

I love basil, especially the genovese. Smells so good. Another one I like
because I think the flowers are so pretty is the Siam Queen, it's a thai
basil. I guess in the P.I. you can grow it all year.

Its been raining here like crazy again and I have a new batch of basil on the seedling tray(as seen on a few posts above). Aside from the constant attack of itchy worms making salad out of my plants, I just want to know if constant rains can cause the basil leaves to wilt or "melt".

thanks
