Default Insect Problem

I planted some peppers and tomatoes this week. I put a stick beside the plant and wrapped the plant and stick with foil...until I ran out of foil for the last two plants. I thought that I would just put the foil on them this morning. Then this happened:

I'm guessing a cut worm did this? It happened to one of the tomato plants that had both a stick and foil 3 inches high. Maybe I should go back and put two sticks?

Or mix up some Triazicide and Malathion and spray the whole garden

Grrrrr! I feel your pain! Sometimes I just use little sticks that I find around the garden and place them as close to the stem as possible so that the little blighters cannot wrap themselves around the stem to do their damage.

However, looking at your pictures again. Isn't that a bit high up on the stem for cutworms? They usually strike at soil level. I wonder if a little furry varmint came along and did the deed????

I'm wondering the same Linda. The tomato plant was eaten or whatever 3 inches off the ground. I'm also wondering about a large grasshopper might have done it?

Robert, I caught grasshopers doing the same thing to mine. Malathion has them at bay so far.

I'm still thinking of one of those pesticide blends for the entire garden
