Thanks for all the Margaret Curtain recommendations over Indian Stripe!

How about Tasmanian Chocolate and Dwarf Wild Fred?

Linda
I really love the flavor of Tasmanian Chocolate. To me, it is brownish black tomatoes with rich earthy flavor. Dwarf Wild Fred is a purpley black tomato, Also excellent flavor but different. I don't know if that helps. If I could only grow one, I think it would be Tasmanian Chocolate.

I am having to cut a few tomatoes from my list to make room for other things. One of these will have to go:

Marianna's Peace or Rebel Yell

I know many of you have grown these two so opinions are much appreciated.

Thanks
Jillian

Marianna's Peace... if it's the correct "fairly smooth" one. There's a rough shaped imposter out there that lacks the flavor of the real one. If you don't know what you have, then RY.

My MP was unremarkable, not bad, just very normal. I got it from a swap so who knows which one I had. I grew it next to a few other pinks, like Omar's Lebanese and Caspian Pink, and they were all very similar, hard to tell apart.

RY is a new-to-me variety for this upcoming summer. The flesh of it looks a little redder than MP. I'm hoping it will have a little more bite like a red tomato.

Sweet 100 vs Tommy Toe

I know many of you have grown these two, could anyone compare the characteristics of each?

Tommy Toe yields less and ripens slightly later. But the fruit are larger, and I think they taste better.

Also, from what I understand, there are multiple varieties or strains of Tommy Toe cherries. I'm trying "Robe Mountain Tommy Toe" for the first time this year.

Imposter? That's interesting to know. I grow MP last year, and had a pretty productive plant with lots of big fruits, but they were mushy and flavorless. Shapewise, they were more like boats, long and curved a little on the top, with slight wrinkles. It was an exceptionally dry year, so not overwatered, did I have an imposter? Um...got to try again with different seeds. Thank you for the info.

Thanks Tormato, the seeds came from seedsnsuch....this is description

80 days. Features unbeatable tomato flavor – a perfect balance of acidity and sweetness. Fruits are deep-pink, meaty and large, weighing 1 to 2 lbs. Vines with potato-leafed foliage produce huge yields. Indeterminate.

The pic looks round. Now I am more curious so I am going to grow it as well as Rebel Yell. lol
I will report back! I have my 32 varieties nailed down now and I am sticking to it, *maybe*.

Indeterminate Orange Hybrid:

BHN-871 vs Chef's Choice Orange. The winner will likely go next year vs BHN-876.

Actually it's much more complicated than that since there's a Marianna's Peace as well as a Marianna's Conflict and if you look at both links below you'll see that it wasn't just Mischk who got variable results, but also possibly the MP seeds that Gary at Tomatofest also sent out were wrong seeds as well

First MP

http://t.tatianastomatobase.com:88/w...anna%27s_Peace

and now Marianna's Conflict

http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/M...b=General_Info

And I'm pretty sure threads are already here about this as spillover from the original issue at GW,now Houzz,but I didn't do a search.

Please let me know on that Worth. I loved the Paul Robeson (as did everyone else that tried it) that I ditched several other varieties for this year so that I could plant more this year. Never tried Indian Stripe, so would be curious on that.

Rebel Yell or Marianna's Peace? Rebel Yell, taste better IMO. Both are productive, but to me RY just tastes better.

My other "versus" involves black varieties. I am actually going to do my own test plan/plant.
They are :

==Brown Heart ( my own named) *
== Black from Tula *
== Black Sea Man
== Indian Stripe
== Cherokee Purple *

I like CP but my complains is its low productivity. That is why I am frying out IS. Black Sea Man is just accidental.

--* have grown then in the past

Here is my "Brown Heart"

I grew Marianna's Peace a few times and stopped...mediocre flavor. Black from Tula has always been prolific for me and very good flavor...but not as good as Paul Robeson.
