My little dog, Corky went to the garden with me this evening. He hadn't been there for a few weeks, and discovered that a huge piece of fire hose was laying there to ambush me. He took it out, and saved me from sure death.

Right at the foot of the bed, or on the arm of my chair.

Though he's acting silly, he is probably the smartest dog I ever had.

Looks like that hose took a thorough thrashing. It shouldn't be able to get you now!

I've given my kids a good schooling several times. Seems their minds go haywire at about 16, then straitens up at about 18.

I watched this one the other night it is a history of Leavenworth prison.
I dont normally like prison shows but this one was good.
One part in it talks about the bird man of Alcatraz and how he used to write child porn.
Nothing like Hollywood made him out to be in the move.

A buddy of mine did a brief stay at Leavenworth. That's where they send people arrested for desertion from the Army. My buddy had been out of the military for ten years. We were ROTC cadets together. The school never gave him his final set of orders. Both of us were screw-ups and not exactly the favorites of the officers running the ROTC program. He still thinks they lost those orders on purpose.

Ten years go by. He's working in LA, suit and tie executive job. He took a cruise with his family, and got picked up by border patrol coming back for an outstanding warrant for desertion. He was immediately fired from his job, and spent a month in LA county jail, probably the worst county jail in the country. They finally got him to Leavenworth, shaved his head, called him 'private' (35 y/o private), and made him stand in formation. They then told him it would take six months to get him out of the Army, gave him an ID, and let him go.

He got the last laugh, though. He went to a military hospital and had $20,000 worth of dental surgery done for free during that six months.

I was a little scared I had my own warrant out. Eventually, I managed to find out that I did not, but that was surprisingly difficult. They don't just tell you that information over the phone. The procedure is to go to the police station, get fingerprinted and locked up, and then they will let you know. That didn't sound fun to me. I was eventually able to find a friend of a friend who was a US Marshal and was able to check for me. My buddy was prior service before rotc, and I wasn't. I think that was the only reason I didn't get my own free vacation to Club Leavenworth.

Friend of mine was picked up and sent to jail for desertion and spent a month in jail.
He was honorably discharged from the army after serving in Vietnam.
I was all a mistake, sorry fella and let him go.

There is a very long story about what they did to me in the Marines but I have held back telling it.

I may be the only person around that requested a court-martial for an offense higher than what they were going to charge me for and get away with it.
Even my military lawyer was flabbergasted at the stunt I was about to pull.

I can sit right here and say that every one of my commanders in the Marines were on my side except for one and they thought I was a model Marine of the type they would want to fight side by side with.
Every one of them were in Vietnam.

Cole I dont know what they do in the army but when I was in if you were gone for over I think 4 or 6 months and they caught you, they would put you in a platoon with a bunch of other guys and you got an undesirable discharge and let out.
They didn't even cut your hair.
Some of these poor guys didn't go home for fear of being caught and all along their discharge had been mailed to them.

Thye have several discharges in the military.
Honorable.
General under honorable.
General under other than honorable AKA GOS good of the service.
Undesirable.
Bad conduct AKA six six and a kick AKA Big Chicken Dinner equals felony.
Dishonorable. felony.
One kind of punishment called NJP or what we call Office hours.
One kind of off the record punishment that lord knows what will happen to you but you better like it or else.
Mine was extra duty NCO for a week and I wasn't an NCO.
There is no such thing as extra duty NCO.

One time another guy and I took off to Oregon and I got back two days late.
He stayed.
When he got back I was his guard and had to carry a club to whack him with if he got out of line or he wouldn't run off that was the talk of the platoon.
I didn't even get in trouble and was asked if I had a good time.

The deer I skinned out in the squad bay hung from a ventilation duct.

Three kinds of court martial.
Summery.
Special.
General.

Barney was treed when I got up this morning. I didn't go to him then because I had to deliver tomatoes to the store. When I got back home he was still there, so I went to him to see what he had, and show him I appreciate everything he does for us. When I got there I discovered it was a classic case of "possum up a gum bush".

Sorry about the rotated video, I hit record, then rotated my device.

When my oldest brother was a little boy he would sneak out in the middle of the night and go out with the hound dogs to go coon hunting.
He was too little to even carry a gun which in my family meant about 6 years old or less.

We never had hounds, only curs or feist. They always ran loose to protect crops, and keep vermin away from the house and barn, but rarely just hunted.

I remember many times 'Ol Sambo, Bear, or Bullet treeing in the night. The barking would wake me and I would get up grab the 6 volt lantern and head to them.
