I cant get over how much easier the stove top coil has made my cooking experiences lately.
I simply won't put a pan or skillet on the glass top stove without one anymore.
Not only are the bottoms of the pans staying cleaner the stove top is too.
Only an expert doesn't get a boil over from time to time.
I am no expert so it happens.
The result was the stuff getting between the ban and the glass top making a horrible mess that carbonizes.
That doesn't happen now or at least as bad.
It has been a long time since I have had to take the razor blade to the stove top.
when you get a boil over the darn stuff would be on the bottom of the pan or kettle.
You can remove the thing and clean off the top if you are careful because it is hot.
BUT how on earth do you clean the bottom of the kettle while you are cooking?
Now the stuff doesn't get on the bottom of the kettle.

I discovered the hard way you can't freeze cream cheese.

Re: glass top stove - the thing I noticed with my mother's stove is that the burners take forever to heat up. When looking for a new stove recently, just about all of them are glass top now. But guess what? They are less energy efficient than the old fashioned iron coil.

There are still a few stoves on the market with the old style burner, and there is one I will probably get eventually - they are for a specialty market apparently, and have a kosher lock on the oven so it can't be used on the sabbath. Knowing my luck, it will lock itself automatically just to spite.

I have figured out how to bake bread in my countertop oven without burning the top, by baking at a lower temp no convection.. although it is still browner than a regular oven. It seems to do thin things pretty well but look out for bigger roasted things, which tend to be burnt on the outside and raw on the in.
One thing that does well is muffins in a small tin. Have not tried the full sized tin which barely fits, but pizza which totally filled the oven was a total fail. Did not bake. What can I say.

I am very surprised at how many people dont understand sabbath mode on appliances.
Not putting anyone down that doesn't just surprised.
But I shouldn't be.
All throughout my life I thought everyone read all these laws as many times as I have and will continue to read them from all ideologies.
Mostly out of curiosity and so I wont offend anyone and do the wrong thing.
Sabbath mode on a refrigerator simply wont let the light come on for 24 hours on the sabbath.
On the oven the light wont come on and beepers wont beep and it will delay cooking for how ever long you want it.
So you can put the roast in the oven and it will come on by itself later.
You dont turn it on during the sabbath it does automatically.
They warn against food spoilage in that part.
I think I got this right, if not correct me.

Do all appliances come with Sabbath mode or do you have to order specific models to get it if you are Jewish?

My new electric oven came with it without me asking and I'm not Jewish.
It is the new way they make stuff with the new technology they have to accommodate people.
Not for sure if all appliances have it or not but more are.

When my mom was growing up in Brooklyn, SHE was the Sabbath mode! She was hired to turn things off and on.

I had no idea this was a feature of the new appliances as well. I only discovered it when I went looking for a stove with the old fashioned burners. Fact is, I could not find the coil burner type that didn't have this special feature. That was a surprise - granted, my old stove is ?? I don't know, it was second hand when I got it 25 years ago. At the time, I had never heard of stoves with these features. But I am not religious therefore have no need for it.... it may have existed even then.

I didn't know about it until window shopping at the stores and saw the things but knew what it did and why.

Just to clarify, I was not surprised that some people strictly observe their holy day of rest. I was surprised that I could only find a coil burner stove that had that feature. I must admit I didn't see the same feature advertised in any of the glass top stoves that I looked at. So I was thinking, these sensible folks refused the newfangled thing that doesn't work as well, and because of them there are still coil stoves on the market! Lucky for me, since I don't want that newfangled thing. I may even take up the day of rest as well, for that matter.

We had cold cut sandwiches on Sunday and we had to make them ourselves.
If not that it was a big granite kettle of soup of some sort.
I was my moms day of rest that is for sure.

Really nice to be able to turn oven up to 450f and 500F with no smoke rolling out of it.
Really nice.
I am so glad I cleaned it after all this time.

The Strange Case Of The Missing Salsa.

It has been driving me batty for weeks on end as to where it was and I wouldn't make or buy any because of it.
Just found it in the freezer looking for bacon.
I had forgotten I had frozen in in bags not in jars.

My last stove, a natural gas stove purchased in about 2012, came with a Sabbath mode. I only found out about it when I accidentally triggered it, and it put the entire stove in lock-down.
