Default Planting is Done!

Well it's been two weeks since my last frost date for my zone and it was such a beautiful weekend I finaly was able to plant my tomatos and peppers out! I feel like a proud mama...although a little sunburned. And both Glacier and Coyote have blooms and fruit formation so I'm hoping they take right off. This year I've planted
Black Cherry,
Coyote,
Glacier,
Green Grape,
Hawiian Tropic (my only hybrid),
Ida Gold,
Santa Sweet,
Snow White

Plus a bunch of others for my grandpa to grow like
Earl of Edgecomb,
Amana Orange,
Sad Sac,
Giant Belgium,
Grandfather Ashlock,
Cherokee Purple,
Yellow Brandywine,
Pasture

Hoping to have lots of fruit!

Must be nice to be able to get them out so early. Afraid mine have a few more weeks at least.

I'm mostly glad to have my kitchen back! They've been crowding my space for the last two months!

Before we built our little greenhouse mine had to be by just one window which is right by my side of the bed. They covered my small stand, the windowsil and I even found a metal shelf made to stick in where the window panes meet in the middle. Somehow you find a way if you want those veggies bad enough, lol.

Rose, I'm happy you've got them out and
in the ground. That's always a relief every
year.

Here in my part of Joisy, our first frost free
date is May 1st. Toms are still 5 to 7 weeks
away from getting planted.

I feel even sadder for our freinds in the colder
zones. Must seem as if summer will never
arrive in those locales....JJ61

I'm jealous. I'm just in the process of finalising my list, planning on starting my 'maters this week for plant out mid may.

I'm craving a blt right now, but the thought of storebought 'maters isn't doing it for me!

Rose,

It is always great to be able to set them free! :-)
Now it is a waiting time

Nice list, btw

Mine are still mostly inside, under the grow lights. I bring them outside in a sunny day to provide extra light. My planting date is late April through mid-May, but Glacier and Schelkovsky Early have baby fruits already 8)

Rose,

Here is the info I've got for Schelkovsky Early (please note that there are both RL and PL versions in circulation, both from Andrey, and I am not sure which one is correct - I have the RL version, and it is early and determinate from all I can tell so far!

Anyway, here you go (info from a RUssian commercial vendor, but I forgot which one):

"Super early determinate, bush, 30-35 cm height. Fruits are round, red, smooth, about 40-60 g, good taste. Superdeterminate, can be used for canning or fresh eating."

Contact me in the fall if you'd like some seed for Schelkovsky RL

I just finished transplanting mine into individual pots today. Still have about a month before I can put them in the ground. I transplanted,

90 tomatoes (Coustralee, German Red Strawberry, Box Car Willie, Arkansas Traveler, Mortgage Lifter)

25 peppers (Jimmy Nardello and Keystone Giant)

21 Genovese Basil

23 Eggplant (Listada de Gandia)

Giardiniere I planted Jimmy Nardello too , plus Red Marconi and a couple of mixed color bells and Bambino and Japanese Long Purple eggplant. Just can't wait for BBQ season when I can just walk out onto the patio have DH fire up the charcoal (we don't cotton to that that there propane) and pluck a few ripe veggies, skewer them, brush butter and spices on and throw 'em on the grill! Yummy, yummy in my tummy!
