Okay Belay that last order lol , Strict orders from the Boss , haveta wait till the ironing is finished before heading off..
But Just got back from the Shed where the second jar of seeds placed same day few hours apart looked all ready to trot so went ahead and washed in the sifter and spread out on paper plate so thereyago ey.. Different strokes for different varieties .
So will suss out the others tomorrow.
Think it will make much difference if a wee bit of pulp/gell is still clinging itself to its host ??....

Volvo - There are many ways people ferment seeds, so stick with what works for you.

It was sad to hear about Grub (David) dying, as he was everyones friend who had a passion for growing tomatoes. A great guy to call your friend.

Now to drying your Seeds??, I wash mine in a strainer , shake access water off and place seeds in a paper plate with a hand towel utop help soak up extra moisture and dry a tad quicker at least hope so ..
As thoughts cross peoples minds , was in a thinking mode last night wandering if by any chance seeds can be a tad too moist when doing the above if they might just partially start to germinate hence the reason being why some of my seeds in time gone past have failed to germinate..
Would like to leave the seeds in the Sun a wee bit before placing on paper plate but have tried that a few times prior to find the plate blown over by wind or seeds eaten up by Gehkos , Birds or other hungry little visitors..
Your fruit dryer , would that work for a small time period ??..

Fruit dryer temps are too high. Top of the fridge is generally not a good idea as it can be colder than the room. Direct sun is also a no no. I put them on my light stand in a room that often gets to 80 degrees or a tad more on a warm day.

why the rush?

i do the paper plate method. i spread the seeds around with the tip of an ink pen, one of the clicker types. if they are clumpy, break them apart after a couple weeks. put them on a shelf in a dry room out of reach of cats, dogs, little fingers etc. i'm not in a hurry because we have close to 6 months of winter or snow on the ground. i package the seeds up when the wood stove starts cranking. humidity in the house is guaranteed low at that time.

Agreed, no chemicals so no possibility of errors that would kill the seed, all natural saprophytic fungal action to clean the seed before rinsing and drying.
